Our Ethos and History

Welcome to the Ashbourne Educate Together website! Our school opened in September 2012 in the Ashbourne Parish centre with just two teachers. From there we moved to our prefabs beside Ashbourne Community centre where are school quickly grew to a two stream school as far as 2nd class. We moved into our new building in Killegland in October 2016 where we now have two classes in all years from Junior Infants to Sixth Class as well as two special classes.

Every year take in two new Junior Infant classes. If you would like to fill in an enrolment form, please go to the enrolment tab on the home page. Our policies and other information is also available to view on our website.

Our Ethos

We are an Educate Together school. Our ethos is based on four main principles.

1. We are Equality Based

All children have equal access to our school and no one religion or worldview is given priority over another within the school

2. We are Co-Educational

All children are encouraged to explore their full range of abilities and are provided with equal opportunities regardless of their gender or identity

3. We are Child-Centred

Our child-centred approach means that we put children at the heart of all policies and practices and involve them in decision-making where appropriate

4. We are Democratically-run

We run schools on a democratic basis, encouraging active participation by parents and students in the daily life of the school whilst positively affirming the professional role of the teachers.
