Fingal League Final 2023

Home / Fingal League Final 2023 - May 21, 2023 , by ciarabyr

Both the boys and girls Gaelic football teams reached the Fingal League Final in Parnell Park on May 16th. The road to the final consisted of a few tough games for the teams but they both came out on top of the semi-finals and made Ashbourne ETNS history as we have never had 2 teams reach the Fingal League Final before. 5th and 6th class came on a supporters bus to cheer for and motivate the teams. They created a brilliant atmosphere in the stadium. It is a huge achievement for both teams to get to the final and they did our school so proud.

The boys team played first and from the start of the game, we knew it was going to be a battle. Coming into halftime it was all to play for as the boys were only a couple of points down. Even with a super second half performance, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be for the lads and they lost the game by 3 points. The supporters really showed their sportsmanship to the boys by continuing their chanting and cheering as they were presented their medals.

The girls team played straight after the boys. After watching the boy’s determined performance, the girls felt really motivated for their game. Much like the lads, the girls match was head to head right from the first whistle. Coming into halftime the girls were up by a point and were focussed on keeping their lead. After a tense 20 minutes, they pulled it out of the bag and came to victory, winning by 3 points. After their hugs and celebrations with their teammates, the team were presented with their medals and Captain, Anna, lifted the cup. The girls made AETNS history by being our first girls team to win the Fingal League Final!
