February was a very busy month in Katie’s Fifth Class. ‘Pop Art’ was the focus of our Visual Arts lessons. We looked at the art work of both Andy Warhol and Jim Dine and discussed artistic elements of their work. The children designed pop art based on onomatopoeia (Andy Warhol). They also created tissue bleed hearts using vibrant colours (Jim Dine).
Friendship Week took place in our school from the 10th – 14th of February. Each class completed various activities relating to friendship – secret friend, pass the compliment, friendship games, etc. On the last day of Friendship Week our class created friendship bracelets to give to their secret friend. The week highlighted the importance of showing kindness to others and how even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference.
The boys and girls worked hard to improve their léitheoireacht Gaeilge over the month. They have been reading a variety of different stories and playing different word games to help with their word recognition. The class are becoming confident young readers as Gaeilge!
