A huge thank you to all the pupils, family members and staff who got out and got active at home for Active Week 2020. We were so impressed by the photos and videos received! Please keep up your daily mile over the summer and we look forward to coming up with loads of fun and exciting ways to get active together in September.

St Andrew’s Athletic Club, Ashbourne
We are an Active School and encourage all our pupils to take up sport in order to get their recommended sixty minutes of physical activity every day! We’d like to help link our pupils with local sporting opportunities and to this end Michelle from St. Andrew’s Athletic Club in Ashbourne came in to speak to boys and girls from Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Classes today.
Michelle explained they train in all weather on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8pm and new members are welcome. Children who’d like to try out athletics are welcome to give it a go and have a free week of sessions before deciding if they’d like to sign up and join. Children can train once or twice or three times a week and opt to compete if they like but Michelle explained the emphasis is on fun.
The club also do a two kilometre run in Ashbourne on Sundays and are hoping to establish a junior parkrun in Ashbourne. Junior Parkrun Info
Families interested in running and fitness could plan a day of athletics with their upcoming 2k race for children and 5k and 10k options this April. St Andrew’s AC 2/5/10k
Ashbourne ETNS children from 1st-6th Class got to have a taster tag rugby session with Kevin from Ashbourne Rugby Club this term.
All children should be aiming for the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day. We would encourage all our pupils to take up a sport in order to help them achieve this along with the many other physical and social benefits sport brings.
Here are the contact details for any pupils who enjoyed their tag session and would like to try more:Minis Rugby Information
Active Week : Wednesday
Today saw pupils from Siofra’s class acting as sports leaders! They organised a fundamentals skills circuit for our junior and senior infant pupils. In addition to this, we welcomed Club Ash to our school. They demonstrated how to play an inclusive sport floorball, to our pupils from second class to sixth class. Children then got to play floorball for themselves! A massive thank you to Deirdre and Club Ash for supporting our pupils today.
Active Week: Tuesday, Sports Day
The highlight of our Active Week took place on Tuesday 11th of June. This year our sports day consisted of an infant and a senior sports day. All classes participated in stations based on a variety of sporting skills and disciplines. We had a lot of support from local sports clubs and the school community and could have not have ran our sports day without their support. We would like to thank: Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club; Ashbourne Baseball Club; Killegland AFC; Anne O Meara, Meath Cricket Officer and our parent helpers, who supported us by running stations . Our sports day was followed by sprint finals for children from first class to sixth class.
Some pupils remarked to their teachers:
“It was the best sports day ever…” and “Can we have sports day every day?!” Well done to all staff and pupils for their fantastic effort!
